Attribute
A parameter or setting of a tag, that defines the way the tag is rendered.
Client Pull
The HTTP-EQUIV attribute can be used to automatically load another document and thereby re-direct the user. Although this use is not recommended it is useful when a page or site has moved to a new location.
Dublin Core
A metadata format developed by an international workgroup.
HTML
Hypertext Mark-up Language. The standard language for creating Web documents. It controls how web pages are formatted and displayed.
HTTP
HTTP stands HyperText Transfer Protocol. It is the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web and defines how messages are transmitted or how a browser respond to certain commands.
HTTP-EQUIV
META tags with an HTTP-EQUIV attribute are equivalent to HTTP headers and control
the action of browsers. It specifies a method for extra HTTP headers to be processed in the document.
Indexing
Indexing programs, spiders, robots, crawlers, record and analyze the occurences of keywords in the text of a page and/or the contents of the TITLE and META tags. This information is stored in databases, which can be searched by users of search engines.
Metadata
Data which provides information about a resource.
Metatags
Metatags, which are embedded in the HTML code of a webpage, provide useful information that are not defined by other HTML elements. Their function is to provide information about a document and about a document's content. Search engines use this information to categorize, prioritize and rank websites.
PICS
The Platform for Internet Content Selection (PICS),developed by the W3C, is a content rating scheme, which provides content labels for information on the Internet and is mostly used to rate a document in terms of adult content.

Robots
Robots, of which spiders are a type, are programs with some artificial intelligence that run automatically
Spider
A spider or webcrawler is a program that automatically fetches Web pages (or data collected from them) for search engines.
URL
Uniform Resource Locator, the address of a source of information on the WWW, the way of identifying locations on the Web.
W3C - World Wide Web Consortium
The organization responsible for the development of Web protocols.

WYSIWYG
WYSIWYG stands for 'what you see is what you get'. WYSIWYG HTML Editors like Dreamweaver or Frontpage let you create web pages by displaying exactly how it will look in a browser. Knowledge of HTML is not necessary.
